The Family System of a Juvenile Sex Offender

Abstract

|
Objectives: This case study explored the family system of a juvenile sex offender, the in-depth causes of his behavior, and the effects of family counseling.
Method: Therapeutic procedures were analyzed in detail using Grounded Theory¡¯s system of open coding.
Results: Ten dysfunctional family-systems categories were identified, some of which were indicated as causes of the sex-offender¡¯s behaviors, including family trauma, repressive communication, and undifferentiated family systems. Through family counseling, the participants¡¯ interactions and the rigid family rules were changed, and detriangulation was promoted.
Conclusion: Family counseling is needed for radical psychological change of juvenile sex offenders.
